The 2026 Jongno Hanbok Festival fills Gwanghwamun Square on Friday, September 11, and Saturday, September 12. Jongno-gu and the Jongno Cultural Foundation run it. This year’s theme is Hanbok × Gugak — Korean dress paired with traditional music.
What’s on
Friday opens with a parade of about 80 residents and the Seoul Children’s Chwitadae, plus street-style stages. The opening ceremony runs 7:00–9:00 p.m. with gugak orchestra, choir, and folk performance.
Saturday centers on the Hanbok Showcase Contest (한복뽐내기대회), awards, and congratulatory shows. Organizers also list a pet category for animals in hanbok — confirm entry rules on the festival site if you want to join.
Across both days, the square and Yukjo Madang host exhibitions under the “Hanbok NEXT” umbrella (including Forest of Jongno), a hanbok playground, on-site rental, experience booths, and an art market. Press also notes a “Under the Gwanghwamun Moonlight” photo zone and stamp missions with Jongdori goods for finishers — check the info desk on site.
How to go
Gwanghwamun Square sits in central Jongno, right in front of Gyeongbokgung. Line 5 to Gwanghwamun Station is the closest stop for most visitors. Google Maps is fine for the plaza; for alley cafés nearby, Naver Map or Kakao Map helps.
Booth hours were shifted to 3:00–9:00 p.m. for heat (from an earlier 11:30 a.m.–8:00 p.m. plan). Stage times can still change — follow Jongno Cultural Foundation updates before you go.
